Tulrude was shaking her head, and her face was wincing as if to say, “No, you poor excuse for a human being, you couldn’t have been so stupid.”

Then she exploded.

I choose to interpret this literally.

The more I read of the strawmen that people like LeHaye put up, the more I’m convinced that people like him — not all Republicans, not all neoconservatives, not even all Right-Wing Christianists — are actively trying to sabotage any attempt at rational political discourse in the US. They want this country to go up in flames, their wet nightmare of being able to “start over fresh”… fresh, except for the dead and decaying bodies of their fellow citizens that they came to see as subhuman.

This is of concern to me. We’ve long since seen the massive push to dehumanize ideological opposition — initially on the Right, but many on the Left are getting so fed up with the eliminationist BS that some of the slightly more centrists are starting to take up the same rhetoric. There are people like LeHaye who want an ideological war… and they’re getting it.

I get the uncomfortable feeling that LeHaye feels that Fox News is too liberal for him.
